So I would have to say coming up with something to write about the last week or so has not been the easiest thing. There has not really been much going on here in Tartu, things have settled down and gotten to a fairly regular schedule. I spent a recent weekend in Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, and I thought after returning from that trip I could explore the differences between there and here in Tartu, however, there were few differences between the two cities. Other than the size everything else was pretty much the same. I have been attending a church here in Estonia, which has been great and I have really enjoyed it. It is a baptist church and the people there are friendly, but unlike Katherine's post about the Polish Catholic Church, Salemi Kirik is much the same as a Baptist church in the States would be, besides the language difference. I have to say looking back on the past two months here there are fewer differences between Tartu and Greensboro than I would have expected. Sure there are many differences, but they are little differences, not huge shocking things. There are sublte cultural differences, for instance, Estonians are in general more superstitious than Americans, and Estonians are mainly of the Lutheran faith. But overall, when it comes down to it, we are much the same, sure we do some things a little different than they do, but we are really more a like than we realize. I think it is important to remember that occasionally, and point out how alike we are, as opposed to always point out how different things are. So I guess that will be my thought for the day, Estonians and Americans are more alike than I thought we would be...
